Hovercraft, Fun Vehicle To Drive In Any Terrain

Since the first i know about hovercraft, i'm always amaze with it capabilities. Such thing that float in the surface does really exist! Cool... Then an idea came to my head, why not i build my own hovercraft? That would be pretty owesome...

The desaign were found at the local library, it's consisted with a plywood platform with a shop vac attached to its powerI. It glides on the floor like an air hockey puck when you sit on it and someone push you.

Its feel funny though, because it's like a kid toy (from my perpective), i need to build something a little more serious, something macho and something.....(whatever)

I search for hovercraft kts or buying a used one, but it all out of my pocket!

Then, i found an affordable set of hovercraf plan online and bought them. After reading the plan, looks like i need to a local hardware shop to buy some tools and equipment that i needed. Now, i'm ready to build my hovercraft.

The construction is basic and consist of foams, fiberglass and playwood. And the plan is so simple, even me with just a basic skills could build the hovercraft my self.

The project tooks almost 3 weeks and it ready to test it out. With some preparation, i started it up and hovered in the yard.

it takes time to control, but after you get use to it, it's quite easy to stear it. everthing seems fine, so i headed to the river next to my house. On water, it glides along smoothly. I can't really describes the feeling, it's a mix of weird, excited, laugh and a little scared :D

I came back with a grin face, and thinking the exicement that i just been through. Right now, i'm on a process for building the second one for my girl friend. I think it will be great hovering around together.

This second hovercraft would need some modificaton to add a little more power.

The great of hovercraft is they can use everyday, not like a boat or snowmobile that have to be in storage in some season. My hovercraft could slide in ice and water easily.

The cost for build this home made hovercraft are reasonable, and exploring your garage to srounging could keep the cost lower. Or maybe a local garage sales would o the help.

But, if you lazy enough to build your own hovercraft, you could find a new or used hovercraft to buy on the net. And you might want to find a small version of hovercraft called hovpod. Just read below..

Having a hovercraft of your own is something fun. The problem is if you can not control it. I will show you little thing that can make you steer better your hovercraft.

1. You need to take the lesson. Most seller provide basic course to get you familiar with the equipment of the hovercraft.
2. Practice on the water. By practice on the water, you will adapt quicker with the equipment and the terrain as well, because driving a hovercraft on the ground is different while driving on the water.
3. Try to move the rudders. This rudder will steer the hovercraft movement, whether to the right and to the left.
4. Feel the timing of the guiding bar. It will help you when to make a turn and how long to make a turn.
5. Try to feel the rhythm of the hovercraft. Because it doesn’t have a brake, then you need to know when to reduce speed to gain a full stop. You want also try to turn 180 degrees on ice while trust on the opposite direction, this to help you stop faster on ice, because reducing speed is not enough while on ice.

The Hov Pod is manufactured in Southampton, England, by Reaction International Ltd. Company founder and Managing Director Peter Ward, established the company in the year 2000.

As a marine engineer Peter travelled to many exotic destinations and pondered on the question, "Why has no one exploited hovercraft technology for the marine leisure industry?" After a number of years market research, he concluded that although there were many kit built and racing craft available, no one had designed a craft to meet the exacting standards demanded by the marine leisure market.

The personal watercraft market is huge by comparison to hovercraft.
